Letting your lights bounce on the music isn’t new for Philips Hue. Since the Hue Sync app from Philips Hue came out we were able to capture anything we’re listening to and translate it into a light script. But when I want to show the cool lighting plus music setup to my friends I rather turn it on via my smartphone instead of running to the PC to change the songs. Luckily I wasn’t the only one! It’s a feature the Philips Hue community has long been waiting for. Since version 4.7 you can finally connect Philips Hue with Spotify.
Setup the link between Philips Hue with Spotify
To set up the Philips Hue with Spotify there are a few steps you need to take. All of them are written in order down below.
- Go to the synchronisation tab within the Philips Hue app and select Spotify
- Now use your Meet Hue account to create the Philips Hue part of the link
- Login with your Spotify account to complete the link with Philips Hue en spotify
- Optionally setup Alexa or Google Home Assistent to work with your app
Now it’s time to party! Lay down on your bed like the picture below, turn on the music and start your sync. To learn more about how this actually works in the background, please read onwards.
How does it work
After linking both of your accounts, the Philips Hue app will extract the metadata from the song you are listening to right now. It will then use the metadata information to create an advanced lighting script. The lighting script does not only make the lights bounce to the music but also change depending on the genre and mood. Besides the initial setup done by Philips Hue, you can also tweak it a little by adjusting the lights’ brightness, intensity, and color palette.
